Have you ever thought what in the world is the federal government doing? Are they just really opposed to the constitutional freedoms and rights that our forefathers created with the U.S. Constitution? The longevity of these rights and freedoms have been in effect since September 17, 1787, and ratified on June 21, 1788, and are composed of the Preamble, seven articles, and 27 amendments. It begins with the words “We the People,” and the first 10 amendments are known as the Bill of Rights. These first 10 Bill of Rights essentially give us protection from the government and or the individuals the government is unwilling or unable to control.
The Bill of Rights is inclusive of the Second Amendment which reads, “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Even though this right celebrated its 235-year birthday on September 17, 2023, government officials furiously continue to reduce the value or the importance and most often lobby to abolish our Second Amendment right. This grab of our Second Amendment freedom has been ongoing for years with activist groups encouraging gun control by executive order. However, just recently the Governor of New Mexico acted this month to set in motion a public health emergency for the purposes of suspending the protected carrying of firearms, the Second Amendment. Also on September 21, 2023, the current administration established the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention with a high-profile activist serving as a special assistant to the President and the Deputy Director. The high-profile activist led a gun violence prevention organization with an agenda item of “advance a public health approach to gun violence”.
Fortunately for us one of our own, Senator Rick Scott has been paying attention to the back door peddling going on with the issue. September 22, 2023, Senator Scott and 19 Republican senators introduced “their bill to prevent the president and the Secretary of Health and Human Services from declaring a public health emergency to impose gun control on law-abiding Americans”. The Protecting the Right to Protect and Bear Arms Act “prohibits the president or their designee, from declaring an emergency pursuant to the National Emergencies Act or major disaster pursuant to the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act in order to impose gun control. It prevents the Secretary of Health and Human Services from declaring a public health emergency pursuant to the Public Health Service Act for the purpose of imposing gun control. It also prevents any government official from prohibiting the manufacture, sale, or transfer of a firearm or ammunition during a disaster or emergency.” Senator Rick Scott said, “Democrats’ latest attempt to implement a flat-out ban on Americans’ 2nd Amendment rights in New Mexico under a dubious ‘public health order’ is unconstitutional. We cannot let the Biden administration attempt a similar executive action to strip the fundamental rights of our citizens. Our Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act keeps this administration in check and accountable.”
There are so many ways to accomplish a goal and with great passion and pursuance achievement will prevail. That is why it is so important for you to vote in all elections. As your vote holds the current, local, state, and federal administration accountable for their actions, taxes, policies, and regulations they implement on us citizens. Our rights are essential, and we must protect ourselves from losing them. Just remember your vote counts and is a vote for freedom and accountability. I will leave you with those thoughts and that concludes this week’s edition of The Straight Truth With Mary Ann Hutton.
